Tarot Tells A Story
Tarot cards are hard paper with images on them. They are like miniature art galleries so versatile in their use from simple pleasure in the art to a book of wisdom that reveals profound truths. When we mix them up, draw a few and lay them out in a row, the images can string together and construct a story, much like a comic strip.
Calvin and Hobbs may not be divinatory but the images are certainly communicating a distinct situation with accompanying emotional content! Let’s look at how tarot can tell us a meaningful story.
Putting Tarot Cards together as a Formula To Create A Story
Now take a look at these three cards from the very beautiful Gaian Tarot. You don’t need to know anything about tarot cards to make a story here. We can go left to right and assign a word or words for each card and then put them together to make a sentence. I will share my quick impressions but I encourage you to create your own.
Card 1 – Taking flight
Card 2 – Pondering
Card 3 – Fire and Passion
My story here is “I’m wanting to run away from this situation (card 1) but I know if I really think about it (card 2) I may choose to go forward even though the intensity of it scares me!” (Card 3).
So if I were asking about a relationship or even a situation I need to make a choice about, this “story” gives me a pretty good indication of what’s going on. It doesn’t tell me what to do (I could draw more cards for that) but having the images reflecting the energy of the situation gives me enough information to just “say yes!”
Now It’s Your Turn
You can do this with any kind of card or image, why limit yourself? I sometimes use post cards which can be very interesting and revealing. Here are three to get you started.
